July 2021. Donges Group is optimising its portfolio and has received a put option to sell its stake in Norsilk to Protac, a company belonging to Groupe Rose. The transaction is still subject to the opinion of the works council and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2021.

Norsilk was acquired by the Finnish Metsä Group in 2015 and, following a successful restructuring by shareholder Mutares SE & Co. KGaA into the Donges Group in 2019. As a specialist in wood panelling and wood products for interior and exterior applications, Norsilk serves customers in the industrial, construction and DIY sectors. The company employs around 100 people at its sites in Bouleville and Honfleur, France, and expects sales of over EUR 50 million in 2021.

Protac, a French company belonging to Groupe Rose, is active in the processing of wood for residential construction as well as exterior and interior spaces and is therefore positioned as an optimal strategic buyer for Norsilk.

Through the sale of Norsilk, the product portfolio of the Donges Group focuses even more strongly on the segments building envelope and steel structures. Only recently, the purchase of Permasteelisa España was completed, which completes the Donges Group with advanced and innovative solutions in the field of building envelopes and high-quality facades. With this, Donges Group offers the market a unique “one-stop-shop solution”.

Donges Group CEOs Peter Brechtelsbauer and Frank Krauskopf agree: “Protac is the best possible new owner for Norsilk. The transaction offers growth potential for both companies. And we as Donges Group can now focus even more on our core competence of building envelopes and steel structures and offer optimal solutions for our customers here.”

Second Christmas donation for Aid Kenya Watoto e.V.

Frankfurt, December 2020: The Donges Group has once again decided to support the Aid Kenya project this year, instead of buying Christmas presents for customers and business partners. This time, the donation is made together with the shareholder Mutares. The financial contribution will be used for the construction of new residential buildings. Besides, the Donges Group supports the upcoming measures with its comprehensive construction know-how.

The nonprofit organisation, Aid Kenya Watoto e.V., was founded in August 2014 in Rhineland and has since done valuable work with deaf children. With the donation last year, a second school building with two classrooms was built. There is also a fully equipped kitchen that provides regular meals, a dining and community room, a chicken coop, and a dormitory for children and teachers. Step by step, Aid Kenya Watoto e.V. is financing and maintaining more and more facilities, which now offer over 50 deaf children a place to learn and live. This year’s donation will be used to build an additional dormitory so that girls and boys can be accommodated in separate buildings, which is a must in Kenya.

“Social commitment is a matter of course for us,” believe Johannes Laumann, CIO of Mutares SE & Co. KGaA, and Peter Brechtelsbauer, CEO of the Donges Group. “We are aware of our social responsibility and are delighted to support the important voluntary work of Aid Kenya Watoto e.V. The help is implemented, where it is needed the most, for children who live in extreme poverty; for those who without such initiatives would not receive school education. As a father, I wish to sow seeds of hope and provide a chance of a self-determined life with our donation for them,” Laumann continued.

“We find this social commitment overwhelming and want to help where it is most needed,” explains Johannes Laumann, CEO of Donges Group. “The work of Aid Kenya Watoto e.V. supports the poorest of the poor and without the voluntary commitment of the founders, these children would have no chance of a dignified life. Kalzip invited “Premium Partner”
60 participants joined the event “Kalzip 4.0”

Koblenz, September 2019
“We would like to thank you for your loyalty and show you the power and energy with which Kalzip is there for you again”, these were the opening words of Christoph Schmidt, Sales Director of Kalzip, at the first Premium Partner Event after the purchase of Kalzip GmbH by Donges SteelTec GmbH in autumn last year.

Kalzip has repositioned itself and is once again the strong partner for aluminium roof and façade solutions. The motto of the event “Kalzip 4.0” is intended to express this development – analogous to “Industry 4.0”. So Kalzip presented a product development directly: Equipped with a resistant coating, the Kalzip profiled sheet does not have to be foild for production, transport or assembly. That saves an effortable work step on the construction site and is also good for the environment because no plastic has to be disposed of. The new Vario LB renovation system also makes it possible to renovate flat roofs that previously could only be solved with lightweight steel construction.

Johannes Laumann, Managing Director of Kalzip and CEO of the Donges Group, also cherished the positive development. “The past twelve months have been a hard way. We are very proud of what we achieved and above all we appreciate the close and long term relationships to you, our customers.

Representatives of the 17 companies who joint the event took the opportunity to introduce their companies and projects. Most of them family-run companies that have been operating for several generations, often specialised in metal roofs and facades and processing Kalzip since many years.

At the end of the official part, Peter Brechtelsbauer, CEO of the Donges Group, presented the Premium Partners with a certificate made of aluminium. Within the framework of the revised bonus system, different medals are awarded each year, depending on the intensity of the cooperation. These medals are affixed to the board and document the close cooperation between Premium Partners and Kalzip.

Afterwards the 60 participants then went on a segway tour. It was a lot of fun, but it also needed some balance and sensitivity. After the outdoor experience, there was, as part of the evening programme, plenty of time for exchange and networking. “A very successful event. I´m sure we could convince our premium partners of our new strength,” summarized Johannes Laumann at the end of the eventful day.

Kalzip is a company of the Donges Group and distributes and produces aluminium roof and facade profiles for industrial construction, leisure facilities, sports facilities, transport and residential construction. The Kalzip Group employs 160 people worldwide and is represented in almost all regions of the world.

Safety is the top priority in the Donges Group

There has been no reportable accident at the Kalzip plant in Koblenz for more than 1,000 days. 1,000 accident-free working days – this is the result of the company’s consistent policy of education, information and improvement.

(BS OHSAS 18001:2007).

Employees take responsibility
The cooperation with all employees is essential for this success. Everyone is responsible at all levels for the own health and safety and that of the colleagues. Employees are required to report and document “near misses”, potential dangers and weak points as part of an internal reporting system.

The efforts of recent month and years have once again shown that it is worth investing in safe working conditions. At an official ceremony, the management honoured this success and thanked the workforce and the works council for this achievement. Kalzip will continue to do everything in its power to focus on occupational safety in the future.
